FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (12-10, 5-7 SSC) lost its third straight home game Saturday, Feb. 12 as they fell to the Eckerd Tritons (17-6, 8-5 SSC), 80-65, at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center.

John Brooks (Sr., Perris, Calif.) and Robert Huntington (Jr., Perth, Australia) led the Sharks in scoring as Brooks scored a game-high 24 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the floor while Huntington scored 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Alex Gynes (Sr., Nowra, Australia) collected a team-high nine rebounds while Lemar Dyer (Sr., Miami, Fla.) dished out a game-high seven assists.

The game was competitive at the start as neither team led by more than three points in the first nine minutes. Leading by a point with 12 minutes left in the first half, the Tritons went on a 10-3 run that set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Sharks came close to breaking their lead and trailed, 23-24 with 5:19 left in the period. The Tritons closed on the period by outscoring the Sharks, 19-11, and entered the locker room leading, 43-34.

NSU could not handle Eckerd down low in the first half as the Tritons scored over half their points in the paint and outrebounded the Sharks, 25-12.

The Sharks held the momentum at the start of the second half and went on a 7-0 run to begin the half. Huntington and Brooks created the run as they combined to score NSU’s first 11 points of the final period. The Tritons answered back with a 19-4 run that all but ended the Sharks chances of pulling out the victory as the Sharks trailed, 62-45, with 9:35 remaining.

The Sharks would come within 11 points of Eckerd with 1:48 left to play but the Tritons closed out the game on an 8-4 run and left the NSU Arena with a 15-point victory.

NSU shot a season-low 30 percent (19-or-63) from the floor, just two misses away from the program’s lowest mark. All Sharks outside of Brooks and Huntington shot a combined 4-for-35. The loss marks the first time in which the Sharks were swept by Eckerd during the regular season since the 2007-08 season.

Teddy Tassy (Jr., Port au Prince, Haiti) earned his third start of the season and contributed four points and six rebounds. Lukas Roesch (So., Sugar Grove, Ohio) corralled four rebounds and scored five points off the bench.

The Sharks will look to rebound this Wednesday, Feb. 15 in Miami Shores, Fla. as they take on Barry at 7:30 p.m.
